Wee Bit Wednesday 16

It’s a special Thursday today…because it’s Wee Bit Wednesday…on a Thursday!

{one} what is your biggest pet peeve?
People who don’t take responsibility for what they do…or don’t do.  Basically, making excuses.

{two} what is your favorite dessert?
I’m not a big dessert person, but apple pie or lemon bars are two of my favorites.

{three} what is the first thing you notice about people?
Hmmm…to be honest…their body. It’s probably because I’m so focused on making my body more healthy and skinnier. I don’t judge them or anything…just notice.

{four} are you usually late, early or right on time?
I try to be early or on time. It drives me nuts when I’m late places, though it happens more than I’d like to admit.

{five} have you ever fired a gun?
Nope. And I have no desire to.

{six} are you right-handed or left-handed?
Right-handed.

{seven} which do you prefer: coke or pepsi?
Definitely Pepsi (though I’m trying not to drink soda as much). It’s a lot sweeter.

{eight} do you dance crazy when no one is looking?
Yep. In fact, my husband often gets to witness it and tries to imitate me…it’s quite hilarious.

{nine} what’s your favorite movie snack?
Popcorn…yummy, buttery popcorn. It’s not quite the same anywhere else.

{ten} do you scream on roller coasters?
Not really.

Virtual Coffee 9.28.10

I found this awesome meme at Lucky Number 13.

Every Tuesday a group of bloggers “meets” for coffee via blog posts.  I thought it would be a fun way to not only update what’s been going on this past week, but also give you a little bit of insight into my every day life – outside of pictures!

So…here we go!  If we were really meeting for coffee this afternoon…

I would tell you that I am super excited for our first anniversary next week!  I can’t believe it’s already been a year and we’re spending the day at Disneyland and get to see World of Color for the first time.

I would tell you that I’m anxious about this weekend.  I don’t know anything for sure, but I have a feeling my husband has some sort of anniversary surprise for me.  I honestly have no idea what it is, but I guess I’m anxious because I do not like the unknown…especially when I know there IS an unknown (or at least suspect it).  I like to plan my weekends – my shopping, my photo project, my to-do list – and with not knowing what’s going on, it makes it difficult to do that!

I would tell you that this whole trying to conceive thing is really starting to wear on me.  People are getting pregnant and having babies all around me.  I’m trying so hard to be patient and trust that it will come in God’s perfect timing, but it’s not easy.  I constantly am asking what it is that God has for John and I before we bring a new little life into this world.  What does He want from us before that time?  I’m still searching for that answer.

I would tell you that my weight loss is going really well!  I’m down 7-pounds and am really enjoying my morning walk/jogs.  I wish I was more in shape so I could run longer and more often (right now I’m at 3-miles with a 1/2 mile warm-up and cool-down walk three times a week).  I’m planning to run a 5K on Thanksgiving morning.  I used to run cross country in high school.  I hated every step of it.  I’m not sure what’s changed in the past 5 years but I would like to start running in 5K races on a regular basis as I build up to a marathon (eventually!).

I would tell you that I’ve got a major nesting bug…and no nest.  We’re living with my sister to save for our own house.  It’s been challenging at times.  I have to remind myself sometimes that when we have our house, it will have been worth it.  We’re coming up on the 6-month mark on November 1…half-way-ish (we agreed on a year…I think we’re going to actively start looking in February or March).

Okay…there it is!  Lots of stuff I probably wouldn’t share under normal circumstances!

Wanna join?  Head on over and grab a “seat.”

join me for coffee!

09.27.10 Photo Challenges

I’ve got some new photo challenges I’m participating in today.  One’s actually from last week, but it’s still open and I have a GREAT shot for it.

So, here we go…

First, the usual Monday Raw(E).  This week’s theme is Girly.  I’m not really that girly (though I’ve gotten a lot more girly since high school and college).  However, a high school friend and teammate of mine has a very girly daughter (she’ll play sports though, don’t worry!).  I got this shot at her third birthday party last December.  She’s just adorable!

Next up is Happy Monday over at My Life Mixed with Photographs. I missed the debut week, but this week was water droplets and thanks the to the rain we had last week, I got this awesome shot of the water droplets on some plants at work.

Ashley Jean

The last photo challenge for today is the Aspire Photo Challenge.  The theme is “Black & White Portraits.”  I don’t really consider myself much of a portrait photographer.  I like shooting pretty much anything non-human.  However, we’re working on a “meet our staff” page for the website at work, so I took some photos of our staff to use.  I’m still working on editing them, but I love this shot of Whitney, so I thought it would be the perfect fit for this challenge!
Aspire Photo Challenge

Lastly, I’d like to invite you to head on over to the August 2010 Photo Hunt Challenge and vote for your favorite photos.  My photos were selected in the top 20 in several categories (I won’t tell you which ones they are – just vote for your favorites!)

D is for…

It’s time for another installment of the alphabet photo challenge.  This week we are exploring the letter “D.”

D is for DAD (Father’s Day 2010)

D is for DIRTY (September 18, 2010)This is what happens to your feet when you wear flip-flops while camping.  I washed my feet shortly after taking this photo.

D is for DOG (September 18, 2010)This is Luke.  He belongs to our  friends’ parents.  He is such a sweet dog that enjoyed our camping trip with us.

D is for DROP (September 21, 2010)It actually rained/drizzled here in Southern California on Tuesday.  I caught this shot of one of the statues on campus at work.

D is for DRY (September 19, 2010)It’s that time of year – when the mountains are bone dry and it’s fire season.  This was the dusty path we hiked last Sunday while camping.

See you next week for the letter “E!”

09.26.10 Sunday Scavenger Hunt

I wasn’t sure I was going to make it this week.  But, I dug through my archives to find a photo or two to share, so here it goes!

#1: Miniature I captured this little guy during our hike last Sunday. He was pretty “miniature” – only a few inches long.

#2: Water DropletI didn’t think I would be able to make this shot happen.  Then, it was rainy/misty on Tuesday morning (you’d never believe it with the 90+ degree weather we’re currently experiencing).  These plants outside of the room where we have Bible Study were just covered in water droplets, so I grabbed my camera and started shooting!

#3: BedheadThis is SO not a flattering picture, but it’s totally a great shot for “bedhead.”  John (my husband) took it Christmas morning last year (our first Christmas as a married couple) just after we got out of bed to open gifts at home before heading off to see family.

#4: ColorfulHere’s another one from our camping trip last weekend.  Even though it was the end of summer and most everything was brown and dry, I found these bright, colorful red  plants mixed with the green.

#5: EyesI’ve shared this shot before, but it was a wider view.  I cropped it in close to focus on the eyes.  I never noticed it until zooming in closer, but there’s a reflection of the windows in the eye in the light.

So, that’s it!  See you again next Sunday for another Sunday Scavenger Hunt!

Blog Badge

I’ve been meaning to create one of these for a while now.  I’m not sure what took me so long, but here it is!

My very own blog badge.  Yes, it’s simple and clean, but if you know me at all and my design work, it fits me perfectly!

Now I just have to figure out how to make a “Grab My Button” text box on WordPress!

Today

Original title, huh?

Well, it fits!

Even though my plan was to update on my “Mission: Lose Lotsa Weight” at the beginning of every month, I have a lot to share today.

I did well this week.  Hiked 4 miles on Sunday, and ran Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  I’m supposed to run Thursday, too, but my leg muscles just can’t handle that yet.  My breathing and will power want to run longer and more often, but my legs very adamantly object.  I hope I can get them into shape soon!

However, I definitely feel it getting easier and easier to run in the mornings.  I have more energy during the running portions of my morning workouts and hope to be running the full three miles in just a couple of weeks (I might be a bit ambitious here, but we’ll see!).  My mile time today was 12:31!  I wanted to get to 12:00 by Thanksgiving (average for a 3-mile run), so I think I’ll be making that goal.

I also discovered I can push myself a little more than I have been.  My lungs, heart and muscles are getting used to the exercise and I don’t have to be quite as slow when I run/jog.  Obviously, I have to be careful to not push too hard and get injured.

I’ve changed my eating habits a bit too…I’m cutting down a lot on carbs, not eating after 8:00, and really watching my portions.  I didn’t do so great at that at the beginning, but the last few days, I’ve done really well with it and I’m surprisingly not that hungry!

And the results of all this?  I finally broke the 190-lb. mark this morning with an official weight of 189!  That’s 6 pounds off!  I am really starting to feel the difference.  I still have a long way to go, but I feel my clothes fitting better and I noticed this morning that my wedding ring is moving around a lot (not to the point of falling off or anything, but it is looser).

Check back in a week for my official Mission: Lose Lotsa Weight update with stats and a photo!

Photo Roulette 10(7)

I’m excited this photo challenge is back this week, after taking a week off.  It gives me a chance to go back in my archives and pull out some old stuff I shot several years ago.

This photo of my first cat, Sierra, was taken in July 2006.  I can’t believe I’ve had her for almost 6 years already!  She still seems like that cute little kitten who was terrified of everything (well, that last part is still true).

C is for…

It’s on to week 3 of the alphabet photo challenge, which means this week is all about the letter “C.”

C is for CAMPING (O’Neill Regional Park, September 19, 2010)

C is for CANDY (September 2010)

C is for CANINE (September 11, 2010)

C is for CLOCK (September 2010)

C is for COLOR GUARD (September 11 2010)

09.23.10 Photo Challenges

Yes, I am a huge slacker.  That camping trip last weekend really set me back so I’m late posting some challenges for this week.  Oh well.

First up is the RAW(e) challenge of “Smiles and Laughter.”  This photo I shot several years ago at an outdoor festival in Camarillo (beautiful place…I’d love to live there again!).

I also wanted to share this photo.  It’s been edited (the SOOC shot is just bad…I made a poor choice in the background in attempting to avoid harsh shadows from the sun and it just was awful).  But, I absolutely LOVE the expressions of their faces in this picture (it’s my boss and the leader of the Tuesday morning Bible Study) and have been looking for a reason to share it on my blog.

Next up is the photo challenge over at Simplicity.  This week’s theme is “Mood.”  I chose this one from our South Dakota trip because I LOVE the mood of it.
