The Past Two Weeks

I never intended to be away from my blog for two weeks. Time just flew by as I spent some time evaluating what I want this blog to be and how blogging will fit into my life. It was actually kind of nice to not have to worry about sorting and editing photos, writing a blog post, uploading photos, linking to memes, etc. I was able to enjoy the craziness that December has been so far!

You see, for the past two weeks, almost every night, my hubby and I have had somewhere to be in the evening. Wednesdays are our small group Bible study. We started taking Early Childhood Education classes that meet for 3 hours once a week (but we’re taking two classes, so that’s two nights a week). We’ve had a Christmas party, a trip to Disneyland, and of course, church (in the new building!).

Oh, and don’t forget Christmas shopping (DONE! Just waiting on one more thing in the mail and I have 2 or 3 little things to make) and Christmas decorating (DONE!) and Christmas cards (not quite done…hopefully early this week!).

So, what I’ve pretty much decided while being away, is that I’m probably only going to be participating in 1 or 2 photo challenges a week. I didn’t like what my blog has become – post after post of photos that I took just to fulfill an “assignment.” I felt like my creativity was being compromised because I was always looking for something to fit into a particular theme. Photography wasn’t fun anymore. It became one more thing to check off my list. I still love taking photos (though I’m glad my 365 photo challenge is only 20 days from its conclusion), but I want to work more on photographing things because I see something, not because it will fit into a particular category. I’m not saying doing what I’ve been doing is wrong for anyone else, it’s just not right for me.

I want to share my life…all the fun and exciting things that have happened and will happen, as well as the mundane and normal…and my journey on my 101 in 1001 and Mission: Lose Lotsa Weight challenges. Our little family of two also likely has some big changes coming in 2011 and I want this blog to be a place to share and celebrate those changes (for those of you wondering, we’re planning to purchase our first home and are hoping to grow our family, too).

As for the photo challenge I started, Lens Art…it’s on hiatus indefinitely. I would love to continue the challenge, but I just don’t have the time or energy for it right now. I thank all of you who did participate and I loved seeing your photographic artwork!

So, with all that said, I do have a long list of blog posts to catch up on…mostly 101 in 1001 related, but there’s a lot that’s happened in the past month and a half or so that I haven’t posted here yet. I hope to see you all around still, even if it’s just to read about boring ol’ me.

Lens Art 11.25

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up…Lens Art will be postponed one day because of Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday with your family and friends, remembering all we have to be thankful for (and it sure is a lot!) and I will see you back here on Friday for our “Shape” challenge!

Lens Art: Texture (and Color/Line Winners)!

First, I finally created the button for this challenge. I’ve known what I wanted it to look like and finally shot the image for it.  So, now you can use this one when you link up!

Next, I believe I’m behind on announcing the winners for the past two weeks…so, without further ado, the winner for color was Ashley at Ramblings and Photos. Not only were the colors stunning, but I love the filter she used on it too!

The winner for the Line challenge is Emma Sue at Living Life One Click at a Time. Her images are protected, so you’ll just have to click on the link to see her amazing shot of an old car covered in snow. Black and white images seem to have extra character to them, at least for me, and I love the lines of the grill! Congrats!

Be sure to stop by here in early December to vote for these two and the winners of the next two challenges for the grand prize!

This week’s theme is Texture – which can either be included in the image itself or added in the editing process. I know a lot of you love those textures so let’s see what you’ve got!  Remember, there will be an awesome prize for the winner of November (handmade custom notecards from Mia Cartoleria)!

Here’s an example of texture in the image itself. Editing it made me so hungry. Can’t wait to get home for a piece of yummy apple pie!

As a reminder, here are the “official” rules:

  • Everyone is welcome
  • The photo must be taken by you – and preferably a NEW photo for the challenge, but if you’re absolutely stuck, you can pull one from the archives
  • One submission per person
  • Keep it G-rated
  • Link your blog post back here to the challenge (there will be a button available next week)
  • Enter your link below (please enter the permalink to the specific blog post, not your home page)
  • You have until next Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. PST

Lens Art: Line

I apologize for the tardiness in posting this. With the holiday last Thursday, it totally threw my week off.

So, here’s the new Lens Art photo challenge theme…line. Curved lines, straight lines, zig zag lines…as long as it’s lines!  You have until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. PST to link up and I will announce the winner for both the color and line challenges on Thursday!  Oh, and don’t forget there are some awesome handmade notecards up for grabs for the overall November winner (to be selected at the end of the month!).

Here’s my line image for the week:

Lens Art (New Photo Challenge)

I realize there are lots of photo challenges out there, but I’m still jumping in the ring because I’m not sure there’s a challenge devoted strictly to artistic photography. Yes, all photography is art, but this challenge is really going to challenge those of you who usually shoot snapshots or portraits to really explore the artistic side of photography, hence the name LENS ART.

For this first week, we’re going to explore the traditional art element of COLOR.  So, go out and shoot lots of color and come back and link up! You have until next Tuesday at midnight my time (Pacific).

Oh…I almost forgot…the prizes! Each week I will choose a winner. At the end of each month, your peers will vote for the top photo of the month and that person will receive custom-hand-made cards from my card shop, Mia Cartoleria. You will have the choice of either a set of cards for the next holiday/season or generic anytime use cards. Pretty awesome, huh?

So, here are the “official” rules:
