Q & A Tuesday 2.15.10

I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day with your loved ones. The hubby and I had a great evening together. Yummy food and dessert (though I think I’ve decided HE’S cooking next year! :-D)!

I know it’s only February, but being a Southern California girl, I love summer, so I’m excited to answer these questions from Roots and Rings for Ten on Tuesday.

1. Any vacations you are looking forward to this summer?
Unfortunately, we don’t have any vacations planned for this summer. We’re in the process of house hunting, so maybe our “vacation” will be moving into our new house!

2. What is your favorite article of summer clothing (shoes are included)?
Flip flops, shorts and tank tops. I can’t pick between those. Love them all!

3. What is your favorite summer drink (alcoholic or non)?
I love lemonade. I know you can get it year-round, but it’s so good!

4. Do you tan or burn?
If I put sunscreen on, I will usually tan.  Otherwise, I burn…and it sometimes turns tan overnight and sometimes it peels.

5. Any goals you are working toward this summer?
Hmmm…there’s nothing specific for this summer. Just working on my 101 list and we’ll hopefully be settling into our first house, so probably lots of home “renovations” – I use that term loosely…I’m talking minor stuff.

6. What is your favorite summertime food?
Berries and watermelon. I love blackberries and raspberries and strawberries and they’re so much cheaper and better tasting in the summer.

7. What song most says “summer” to you?
“Summertime” by Rascal Flatts or “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock. I’m sure there are others that remind me of summer, especially in high school when summer actually meant no school, but these are the two songs coming to my mind right now!

8. Any home improvement goals planned for this summer?
To have our own house!

9. What is one thing you hate to see at the beach?
Speedos. Especially on old guys. Yuck.

10. Did you ever go to a summer camp?
We used to go every summer. It was the highlight of the summer (and usually was the first full week after school was out, so it was the “signal” that summer had begun).

And here’s the questions (and my answers) for Hoo Are You? over at Night Owl Crafting…

1. What did you get/give for Valentine’s Day?
I gave my husband a candy bouquet with his favorite candy in a Philly Eagles cup. He loved it. I got a single red rose (so pretty!) and $20 toward my portrait lens.

2. Do you have a vacation planned in the next couple of months or in the summer?
Nope, no vacations planned. We might take a long weekend somewhere local, but we’re trying to save for and buy a house, so vacations are kind of out right now.

3. What is one thing you do to pamper yourself?
I don’t know that I really do anything to pamper myself. My husband does a give really good foot rubs, so I guess HE pampers me like that on a pretty regular basis.

4. What sparks your interest to other people’s blogs?
For the most part, what catches my interest is seeing other people’s ideas, whether is a recipe, craft, furniture, home decor, how they celebrate holidays/traditions, etc. I have a folder on my computer that I save all the neat ideas I see around blogland.

5. What kind of a mood are you in today?
I’m tired today (is that a mood?). I didn’t sleep well last night, so I guess I’m kinda tired and irritable. Hopefully I’ll feel more energized later tonight (I’m a night person, so I usually do).

Ten on Tuesday 64

1. Do you decorate for Valentine’s day?
Not really…at least not yet. Once I have my own house (soon…like few months soon, we hope!), maybe I will, but nothing too elaborate. I don’t like Valentine’s decorations in January, so it’s a pretty short time frame to have them up!

2. Does your desktop have a picture or computer graphic? Is it organized?
It’s definitely organized. It drives me nuts to have a bunch of stuff all over my desktop. I organize it regularly. The background is a graphic/image with a calendar. I look at the beginning of each month for something I like and then use it. My work computer is up to date. My personal laptop…still has November. Oops.

3. Do you use a paper planner, electric planner or no planner at all?
I have a paper planner I carry in my purse, an iPhone calendar I use to sync with my personal computer, a big wall calendar for both John and I (and any future children), plus I sometimes keep personal stuff on my work Outlook calendar. Yeah, it’s fun trying to make sure everything is correct on all of them, but I really do use them all!

4. Do you change purses or bags often or stick with a good thing?
I use one purse until it breaks or I get tired of it. I’ve had my current one for about 9 months now. It’s hard justifying to my husband buying a new purse when the one I have is perfectly usable. I guess my husband is glad I’m not really much of a fashionista and I don’t really care if it matches!

5. What’s your favorite YouTube Video?
I don’t really watch YouTube videos very often. Usually because I want to hear a song is the only reason I’m on that site.

6. Do you use Turbo Tax or a real person to pay your taxes?
I’m not sure it’s Turbo Tax that I’ve used, but I’ve never used a real person…unless you count my husband who then uses one of the online programs.

7. How many states have you set foot (or tire) in? Which ones?
I’m excited to share this one…since I want to visit every state, I have kept careful track, so here they are in order that I’ve been: California (obvious), Hawaii (this one needs to be revisited…I was 3 when we went), Arizona, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Idaho, Oregon, Illinois, Maryland, Kansas, Missouri, Florida, Texas, New York, Nevada, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wyoming. 21…almost half way. Hopefully  next time we visit John’s family in Philly, we can make a little road trip up to New England so I can get all those states…then it’s pretty much just the south and midwest left!

8. How many countries have you been in? Which ones?
Other than the US…3. Mexico, Germany (just the Frankfurt airport) and France.

9. How many pillows are in your house? (Sleeping or decorative)
Just the four that are on our bed. Once we have our own house, I’m sure this will be changing too.

10. How cold is too cold for flip flops?
My feet are the first things to get cold…they can be freezing and the rest of my body is fine, yet I love being able to wear flip-flops. I could probably get away with wearing flip-flops year-round (yes, I know, you’re all jealous), but usually above like 68 is good!

Hoo Are You? 28

I haven’t participated in this weekly meme in a while, but couldn’t resist today since it’s all about food!

1. Are you fond of cooking? Yes, I love it! I think I got the love of cooking from my mom. When we start house hunting in a couple of months, a large kitchen (or potential for it) is pretty much at the top of my list!

2. What kind of food do you prefer eating when you are out? I’m a fan of seafood, pasta and Mexican food. I do like to try different things sometimes too. I’ve gotten a bit more adventurous with my eating over the past few years since I started watching all those food shows.

3. Which do you prefer, sweet or salty? My husband is the one with the sweet-tooth in our family. I definitely love salty. Sometimes my husband complains things are too salty and I think they taste just fine or even need MORE seasoning!

4. Where is the last place you ate out at? Hmmm…I think it was Olive Garden for John’s dad’s birthday back in December.

5. What’s for dinner tonight? Chicken tenderloins that are breaded in panko, parmesan cheese and thyme and then baked. I’m also doing Rice-a-Roni (love that stuff!) and some sort of veggie.

Wee Bit Wednesday 24

What’s that? It’s Wednesday again?!? Tomorrow is Thanksgiving?!! Christmas is only one month away! I guess I better get to answering this week’s Wee Bit Wednesday questions so I can get on with this lovely 4-day holiday weekend!

{one} what kind of camera do you have? I have a Canon Rebel XTi. I really want to update to the more current model, but I’m not complaining! I love my camera!

{two} you just won $1000 and you have to spend it on yourself on one item. what do you buy? Hmmm…tough one, but I’d probably buy a new camera with a new lens (either a macro or wide aperture). Yes, that’s technically two items, but oh well.

{three} if you had to choose, would you rather live with your parents in the same house forever or 5000 miles away? I’d rather live with my parents. I don’t think I could ever live that far away from them! The farthest I’ve lived was 90 minutes!

{four} is your christmas tree up yet? Of course not! It’s not Thanksgiving yet. Christmasness (yes, I just made it up) may begin the Friday after Thanksgiving.

{five} do you bring reusable bags to the grocery store? Sometimes, if I remember. They’re way sturdier than the plastic ones and they hold a lot more!

{six} which would be worse: listening to the same song on replay for the rest of your life or having to eat the same meal everyday for the rest of your life? Same song…I hate when I have a song stuck in my head. This would only contribute further to that annoyance.

{seven} name 3 things you are thankful for this season. My family, my job, and living in America (not only for the freedoms we have, but also because of all the everyday “luxuries” we are so lucky to have – like running water and electricity)

{eight} do you dye/highlight your hair? if so, do you do it yourself or have it done at the salon? Nope, I do not dye/highlight/or otherwise alter my hair color.

{nine} would you rather watch a movie at home or at the theater? Depends on the movie. We don’t really watch a lot of movies (I’m more of a TV person).

{ten} would you rather win $1000/week for life or $5 million all at once? Well, if you’re looking at it from a purely numbers standpoint, the $5 million is more, but I think I’d choose the $1000. It would be easier to manage and it wouldn’t end up getting spent all at once.

Hoo Are You? 24

I always seem to struggle with getting Tuesday posts done because my morning is totally booked at work and I’m away from a computer. But, since these questions were up tonight, I’m going to take a few minutes before going to bed to answer. I need some verbal time after spending an hour or two creating the damask print for our Christmas cards!

What’s that? Oh, you want to see?  Alright, here’s the print I created…consider it your sneak peek at our Christmas cards, which I plan to finish by Sunday night, and get them in the mail on Monday!

If you want to know how I created it, check back next week.  I’ll include all the details of how I created our Christmas cards once I reveal the final product!

Okay, so on to the questions for this week!

1. Name 5 things you are grateful for! This is a pretty easy one…I’m thankful for my wonderful, loving husband; my job and the amazing people I work with; the opportunities that God has given me to use my talents and abilities; my supportive and encouraging family (especially my parents…it’s amazing how much they really do know! 🙂 ); and last, but certainly not least, is God’s unconditional love and grace.

2. What is you favorite dish at Thanksgiving dinner? Olives, if you count that as a dish. If not, probably stuffing or mashed potatoes (depends on what’s in the stuffing).

3. Do you have any family traditions for Thanksgiving? Not really…other than going to my great aunt and uncle’s for “dinner” (we usually eat in the early afternoon…the first round, anyway).

4. Are you staying home or traveling for Thanksgiving? Well, if by home, you mean driving for 20 minutes, then, yes, we’re staying home. We’re not traveling out of state or driving for any significant amount of time, but we’re not eating at the place we live.

5. What else do you do on Thanksgiving day besides eat? This year I’m running a 5K in the morning. We usually play board games. Sometimes we go to a local park and take family pictures to use for Christmas cards (which we will be doing this year).

Q & A with Katie 11.17.10

My brain is not functioning well enough to come up with some catchy, inviting intro, so here you go…three ways to get to know a little more about me!

Ten on Tuesday (or Wednesday)

1. What is your favorite breakfast pastry?
Is a bagel a pastry? If not, then I’m not a big breakfast pastry fan.

2. Were you ever in a Thanksgiving or Christmas play?
I was in several Christmas plays. In fact, I think we did one every year at church in elementary school. I also played the “adult” role of Sophia Spaghetti when I was working in children’s ministry in high school.

3. What is your favorite clothing accessory?
I don’t really wear accessories other than a belt, so I guess that would be it!

4. What is your favorite item of clothing?
My black lounging pants. Those are the most comfortable things on earth. I have a feeling once I’m pregnant, I will be living in them!

5. What is your favorite color and why?
Green. Not sure why…I’m finding it goes with a lot of other colors really well, though.

6. What is your favorite type of Christmas cookie?
Snowballs! (Mexican wedding cakes, I think is their alternate name)

7. What is your favorite scent (food, perfume/lotion)
Grapefruit is one I’m liking a lot right now. I also love vanilla. And the smell of sunscreen. Takes me back to the beach and summer time.

8. What is your favorite household cleaner?
Clorox wipes. Use those suckers on everything (except my sisters granite countertops)

9. When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up? And what did you actually grow up to be?
I wanted to be a lot of things growing up, from a ballerina to a strawberry picker (we had strawberry fields near our house) to a broadcast journalist to a teacher. I did teach for two years, but most of my experience has been administrative related.

10. What is the last song or album you bought?
I actually just downloaded a couple of songs last night for our RUBY worship time today. I don’t remember the LAST one I downloaded, but one of them was the song “Surrender” by Lincoln Brewster (AMAZING!).

——————–

Hoo are you?

1. Do you ever burp out loud in private or public? Private…yes, all the time. My husband always comments how sexy it is by saying “oh baby.” For some reason, I don’t really do it in public.

2. How often do you get sick each year? If by sick you mean not feeling well…like constantly. My allergies are not friendly to my body. If you mean “cold” sick…2-3 times a year. If you mean like flu sick…it’s been a long time since I’ve had the flu.

3. Would you rather paint a room in your house yourself, or have someone else do it for you? If you know me at all, you know this is an easy answer…I’d rather do it myself, though after I finished, I’d probably wish I had someone else do it!

4. If you get 30 minutes to yourself, what do you do? Sleep or blog hop or catch up on a TV show.

5. Do you allow people to wear shoes in your house? When we lived in our apartment, I usually took them off because it’s more comfortable, but it’s not like we made people…if they wanted to, they were welcome to. Not sure what we’ll do in our future house.

——————–

Wee Bit Wednesday

{one} what time do you normally wake up?
I usually wake up between 6:00 and 6:30 when my husband leaves for work. Then, I go run before getting ready for work.

{two} do you have a go-to song for karaoke?
No. I will refrain from torturing others in the room with my non so melodious voice. That is a gift I was NOT given.

{three} if you could only see black and white except for one color, what color would you choose to see?
Hmmm…something bright and cheery…maybe yellow?

{four} what color best matches your personality?
I’d say blue. It’s a responsible color.

{five} if you could choose one meal to cook better than anyone else, what would it be?
Oh gosh, I don’t know. I don’t think it’s about cooking something BETTER than someone else. It’s about enjoying the process of cooking and eating once its made.

{six} how many keys do you have on your key ring?
Four. My car, John’s car, my sister’s house (where we live) and my parents’ house. I used to have a lot more, plus a whole ton of keychains until my mechanic told me a super heavy keychain can mess up your ignition.

{seven} do you give your pets birthday/christmas gifts?
We have given them toys or treats/wet food on Christmas, but don’t do anything for their birthdays. Two of the three are strays and we can only guestimate when they were born.

{eight} when your plate has different foods on it, do you mix or not?
Not really. I don’t mind if the food touches, but I’m not going to mix it up.

{nine} if you could hire someone to do one thing for you all the time, what would it be?
Clean my house. I have to be in a cleaning mood to actually get any cleaning done.

{ten} when flying, do you prefer the window or aisle seat?
Aisle. I hate having to climb over people to get out to use the restroom or get something from the overhead bin. It creates problems because my husband prefers the aisle seat, which means I usually get stuck sitting in the middle next to a stranger.

Wee Bit Wednesday 22

It’s another Wednesday already! Only 15 days until I run my 5K on Thanksgiving morning!

For now, it’s another installment of Wee Bit Wednesday.

{one} do you collect anything? if so, what and how long have you been collecting?
I used to collect pins and buttons and anything Snow White. I’ve learned since then that I don’t really need to collect stuff. I have way too much stuff as it is and I’m only adding to the clutter!

{two} what is one cleaning tip that you swear by?
What’s cleaning? Just kidding…kind of. I don’t really have any tips, but I have learned over the years that if I clean right away instead of waiting for it to build up or get worse, it’s much easier and I’m much less stressed.

{three} who would you call for bail money?
The hubby. I’m pretty sure I’ll never need bail money though!

{four} what is one thing you miss about being a kid?
Not having to pay for anything! Mom and Dad always took care of it. There was no stress about money and paying bills.

{five} name a few of your guilty pleasures.
I’m not sure I have one really. Nothing is coming to mind. I’m sure my husband would be able to answer this better than me.

{six} how early do you start your holiday shopping?
Usually about now. Since my family writes lists for each other and we try to get them done early (my mom likes starting early), it makes things pretty easy. I don’t think I’ve actually purchased anything yet, but probably will in the next week or so. I do not want to go shopping during the holiday rush. I’ll probably end up buying most stuff online anyway.

{seven} what is a family tradition that you would like to pass on to your significant other/children?
A Christmas ornament every year. From the time we were all in my mom’s tummy, we started getting a Christmas ornament every year. Then, when we moved out, we got to take our ornaments with us and I had WAY more than enough to decorate an entire tree!

{eight} what do you consider your greatest achievement?
Earning my master’s degree (even though I don’t actually use it).

{nine} what do you do to pamper yourself?
I don’t really do any pampering really.

{ten} if you were to start your own restaurant, what would it be called?
This is totally the easy cop-out answer, but since I have no desire to open a restaurant, I’m taking it…Kate’s Kitchen.

It’s time for a little Q & A

I’m still not in much of a photo editing mood and I know I’m horribly behind on my 101 blogs (I’ve got a handful on my “to blog” list), but I do still feel the urge to blog, so I’m joining up with Roots and Rings for a fun Q&A linky party called Ten on Tuesday.

Wanna play?  Head on over and link up!

1. Who makes your Thanksgiving dinner?
Every year we go to my dad’s aunt’s house for dinner. She usually makes most of the food, turkey, included, though sometimes everyone brings a side dish. My mom also usually makes a full Thanksgiving dinner sometime around Thanksgiving as well.

2. What is your favorite recipe the includes pumpkin? (bonus points for including the recipe)
None. I do no like pumpkin. Sorry I’m boring.

3. What are 5 things you want for Christmas?
Well, the TOP 5 things I want for Christmas this year are a Silhouette (since they’re Mac-friendly now), an 50 mm f/1.8 lens, running gear (for the half marathon I plan to run this spring), a couples devotional, and my number one would be a positive pregnancy test…that would make this Christmas truly awesome.

4. Does your family draw names or do you buy for everyone?
We buy for everyone.

5. How do you feel about motorcycles?
Honestly, not much of a fan.

6. What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy Saturday?
Relax and watch TV or read a book. I love just listening to the rain. It’s so soothing.

7. What is the coolest thing to do in your city?
I’m going to have to vote Disneyland on this one. There’s a ton of stuff to do here in Anaheim and the surrounding cities, but Disney is pretty much my favorite.

8. Do you paint your fingernails?
No, I suck at it. I end up with more polish on my skin than my nails. Same reason I don’t do my toenails.

9. Who is your favorite actor over the age of 50?
Oooo…tough one. I’m not sure I have “favorite actors” anymore. I used to be a big George Clooney fan. He’s over 50, I think.

10. Do you have a high school letter jacket?
I do. I lettered in soccer, cross country and academics.

—————-

And since it’s still Tuesday, I’ll go ahead and answer the questions over at Night Owl for Hoo are You?

NightOwlCrafting

1. Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at. Photography (though I admit I can always improve and have a LOT to learn) and graphic design/layout design. I always get compliments on my flyers I design for work as well as my designs for custom handmade invitations and cards. (Mia Cartoleria)

2. Name two things you consider yourself to be very bad at. Anything musical, whether instrumental or vocal and not waiting til the last minute to get things done (I’m an AWESOME procrastinator).

3. Do you believe everything happens for a reason? Yes…we may not understand that reason, but it’s all part of God’s plan.

4. What is something you have eaten lately that you shouldn’t have? Ummm…pretty much my entire dinner last night. Don’t get me wrong, it was so yummy. I just ate way more than I should have, and I’m still feeling it 24 hours later. Oh…it was “Thanksgiving” dinner (my mom made turkey with all the traditional sides just because she wanted to.

5. Do you think the time should change or leave it alone? Tough one. I do like that it’s now light earlier because now I can run in the mornings without worrying about it being dark or being late to work. But, I’m not a fan of the early nightfall. It always feels so late when I’m eating dinner and I feel like I have zero time to do anything in the evenings.

Fill in the Blank Friday: Hair

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve joined in on this, but I’m excited about this topic, even though I honestly don’t do much with my hair very often! For more hair stories, head over to the little things we do…

1. My last haircut was Labor Day Weekend 2009.  No joke. When I had my hair trial for my wedding, my stylist cut it. I haven’t gotten it cut, even trimmed since then. I have a reason though! I’m doing a “Rock the Dress” or “Happily Ever After” shoot tomorrow and I wanted to have super long hair for it, so I’ve let it grow. Fortunately, since I don’t do much to it, it’s actually still pretty healthy!

2. My most daring hair moment was the first time I remember making the decision myself to go short after having long hair as long as I could remember. It was in fourth grade. I was really into changes then…I wanted braces and glasses too!  The second most daring was when I got layers for the first time…college graduation when I was almost 22.  Yep, I’m Captain Daring!

3. A hairstyle I’d never be brave enough to try is boy short. I’m sure there’s a technical hair term for it, but I would never go above the shoulders. Just not me. Plus I have a rule that I have to be able to put my hair in a ponytail…it can be a short pony, but it’s got to be able to do it.

4. I’ve always dreamt of being a (blonde, brunette or red-head) blonde. I’m not sure I’d actually look good as a blonde, but especially in high school and college, I wanted to be blonde.

5. My go-to hair do is down and natural. I usually will brush or comb it and let it air dry. Whatever happens, that’s my hairstyle. I’d say a close second is a ponytail, especially when I want it up off my neck (though with hair this long, nothing helps keep it off my neck).

6. My biggest hair disaster was when I accidentally lightened my hair. Okay, so it wasn’t a total disaster, but I used that sun-in spray stuff, and thought that when the bottle claimed it lightened your hair like the sun would, I assumed that meant it would also fade. Not the case. Whoops! You can see in the photo below where it gets lighter (between my ears and shoulders). This was taken at my college graduation party in May 2004.

7. A hairstyle I am dying to try is pretty much any type of updo. I’ve never been able to successfully do it myself. I really want to be able to do a French twist, if I have to actually name a style.

8. My best hair day was my wedding day…easy. It totally cooperated and turned out exactly how I had pictured it!

9. The worst hairstyle I ever had was ummm…I guess in high school, my junior year, when I went super short (well, for me). I didn’t like that I couldn’t put it in a ponytail. I know it’s hard to see in this photo, but this is as short as I’ve ever gone, that I can remember!

10. My hair is thick and healthy. It may not look like much since I never do anything with it or to it, but I always get comments when I do actually cut my hair about how thick and healthy my hair is.

And since I’m sharing some old photos today, it’s only appropriate that I link up to Flashback Friday at Christopher and Tia’s.
Flashback Friday Button

Hoo Are You? 21

I might be a little late joining the party…this cold and/or allergy attack has really zapped my energy…but it’s not TOO late yet!

NightOwlCrafting

1. What is the most physically painful thing that has ever happened to you? I honestly can’t think of anything.  I’ve never broken a bone or gotten severely injured.

2. What would you name your next child or if you don’t have any your first child? If we have a girl, Sophie Grace. A boy will be Aaron Michael. This would be for our first child. Our other children will be Leah Ellen Joy and Benjamin (no middle name yet). If we have more than two of one gender, I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

3. If you could add one feature to your car, what would you choose? Oh gosh…there’s a lot I could add to my car! I’d be happy with power locks or power windows or an antenna that actually works, but I think the BEST feature would be a hands-free trunk release.  You know, you push the button on the key and the trunk pops open. That one!

4. If you named your house (or car or computer) what would you name it? My computer is “My Baby” and the diamond in my ring is named “Sparkly” but other than that, I don’t really understand the whole car-naming thing.

5. What is your dream occupation? Oooo…easy! Stay at home wife and mom. Sign me up!
